Some years ago my Dad passed down to my several issues of The Monster Times, a newspaper like magazine about horror and cult films from the late Seventies. I've never actually seen another issues anywhere, most likely because of the newspaper it was printed disintegrating. So I thought I should start sharing some of the choice articles included before the magazines fade away entirely. Today I bring to you The Decline and Fall of Bela Lugosi from the the October Issue, 1973. Hope you enjoy, and if you do let me know and I'll post more articles like this in the future.
TL - this is very cool! Man rose to the top fast and fell faster. One of my father's favorite actors of all-time.
ReplyDeleteOf course as soon as I started looking at those old pics, I could only think of "Pull da strings! Pull da strings!"
Wow, I've never heard of Monster Times! Very cool, glad you're putting them up for posterity.
ReplyDeleteI can't think of a better, more loving, or even more profane, tribute to Bela than Martin Landau's performance in Ed Wood.
Lugosi was a load of old rubbish but at least he wasn`t British like Karloff.
ReplyDelete@ Geof- I always think of that line when I see ol' Bela in his later years. his tragic tale is ful of woe, but now when people think of Dracula his image has become the standard!
ReplyDelete@Will, totally agree. I'll have more articles coming bi-weekly until I run out of them. I'm glad to put this stuff you there where people can check it out.
